Tips for visiting a driver licensing office

Skip a trip, go online

Many services are available online. Check your renewal notice to see if you're eligible to renew your driver license or ID card online. If so, look at your options to Renew your driver license.

What you need to know before visiting an office

  • Make an appointment to come into a driver licensing office.
  • We encourage customers to wear a mask.

Keeping you safe

Your safety is important to us. We’ve updated our protocols to keep you and our staff safe. Please:

  • Do not come in for an appointment if you are feeling ill or suspect you were exposed to COVID-19. Reschedule your appointment for a later date.
  • Sanitize your hands when you arrive at the office.
  • Practice social distancing and wait for instructions before approaching the counter.
  • Let us know when you make an appointment if you need to bring a translator, caregiver, or dependent.

Our health and safety measures come from guidance from the Governor’s Office, Labor and Industries, and the Department of Health.

Pre-apply online

If you're getting your first Washington license, ID card, or permit, you can pre-apply online. You'll get a confirmation ID that you bring to the office. Show us the confirmation ID and we'll have all the information we need to get started.

Come prepared

Before you go to the driver licensing office, make sure you have everything you need to:
