Transfer your CDL

To transfer your CDL, make an appointment to visit a driver licensing office location. You'll need to:

• Show your valid out-of-state (OOS) or Washington driver license.
• Provide proof of Washington State residency.
• Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency.
• Submit CDL medical documents.
• Complete self-certification.
• Take any required knowledge tests. See hazardous materials endorsement (HME) for other requirements for HME.
• Pay the fees.

Always verify the document we issue you is correct. If you have questions, please ask us.

• At the time of transferring to WA, if you surrender your OOS CDL, you'll be required to meet all WA CDL requirements to get a CDL issued. See Steps to getting a CDL.
